Spear / Fire Staff PvP Build
I couldn’t resist trying out an Intelligence build like this. The spears powerful AOE stuns and zoning capabilities fit perfectly with the high ranged damage and speed of the fire staff. By using an ignited gem on the spear this build can do serious damage with both of its weapons, and the playstyle of the build makes it very tricky for your opponents to approach you. This build absolutely excels with a bit of terrain to help LOS long ranged attacks and has some of the fastest skill cooldowns you can get. You can play this setup in any armor weight of your choice, but I really enjoyed the feel of the light armor roll mixed with spear combos!
The gear for this build can be found at any trader, as a lot of players are crafting and selling gear. Aim to get the specific equipment perks that you need for the build, followed by getting the best equipment attributes that you can!
Check out a video guide with gameplay for this build!
Start by putting 50 points in Constitution for the additional healing power and health, this scales really well in the early game. Afterwards focus on stacking intelligence. The bonus elemental damage at 150 points is a huge passive to get! You can always build more constitution if you want to be a bit more bulky.
Constitution
50: All health consumables 20% stronger. +10% logging speed.
Intelligence
50: +10% damage to light and heavy magic attacks. +10% harvest speed.
100: +10% critical hit chance. 5% chance for 1 Azoth when harvesting.
150: +15% to elemental damage. -10% decrease in weight of harvested items.
200: +10 mana after a dodge. +10% harvest speed.
250: +30% duration to damage over time spells. +10% yield increase when harvesting.
300: +30% damage on first hit on full health target. -10% reduction in Azoth travel cost.
Equipment
Our gear attributes are focused on stacking more Intelligence, with a secondary focus on Constitution.
The spear is enchanted with an ignited gem (ruby) as this build is fire damage focused. The best perks to get would be anything keen to increase your critical rate and damage, or even keenly jagged and keenly empowered for the bonus bleed and damage they provide respectively.
The fire staff also benefits from the same keen perk selection, but I have chosen a gambit gem that gives a damage bonus when your stamina is not full. This is a great choice because you will be doing allot of rolling while using your fire staff!
Keen vault kick is fantastic because this build has a pretty high critical rate already. Vault kick can also be used quite often thanks to the rapid cooldowns on spear skills so you can expect a good uptime on the bonus critical rate too. the empowered fireball perk is great for the additional it provides, and the efficient burnout perk is great for helping your mana sustain. Otherwise the armor perks should focus on more cooldown reduction.
With this gear loadout you should be in the light armor class which gives you access to a dodge roll. The roll is great for mobility however you can still play this build in a heavier armor weight if you want to. There is also no shield used in this build, as it does not provide us enough meaningful stats to justify its heavy weight.
The best armor gems to use would be physical and elemental damage reduction, as they provide the most well rounded defense.
As always, you want to try to use the best food and potions that you have available! Make sure you use regeneration potions and mana potions for the additional sustain!
Active Skills
Spear
Skewer - 4/4 Upgrades
Skewer does a decent amount of damage, and will also apply a long duration bleed. I really liked this skill with spear because it also lunges you forward a few meters. Due to the the spear not being a very fast weapon, this can be super helpful for backstabbing a fleeing target. Applying the bleed from skewer is important for upping our critical rate to.
Vault Kick - 3/3 Upgrades
A fantastic stun that also lunges you forward. Vault kick is a huge deal for spear because it can drastically reduce the cooldown of your other skills if you land it, and even more so if its used after a dodge roll. The keen vault kick perk also gives you a nice critical chance bonus when you use this!
Sweep - 2/3 Upgrades
A fantastic AOE stun that you can use super often thanks to vault kick and the spear dodge passives. I chose not to take the last upgrade of sweep however, due to it being a rather slow move that can leave you quite vulnerable if your outnumbered.
Fire Staff
Fireball - 3/3 Upgrades
Throw a powerful AOE fireball that leaves a burning field where it lands. This skill combos well after a heavy attack and can be roll canceled quite nicely to! A fantastic all around damage ability that you should use as often as possible.
Incinerate - 4/4 Upgrades
A large AOE blast that hits twice, heals you for a portion of the damage done, and knocks opponents back. This skill has a longer cast time and plants you in place, so it can be tricky to time in PvP. The damage of this skill is super high however, and it can be used after you stun your opponent with the spear. Feel free to use a skill of your choice here if you don’t like incinerate!
Burn Out - 3/3 Upgrades
The best skill fire staff has in PvP. A super long distance gap closer that damages and burns anything you charge into. This skill is great for attacking and escaping, and does a great job covering the spears lack of mobility.
