Abyss PvP Build - Great Axe / Fire Staff
Season 3
Arguably one of the best PvP builds right now. This guy has top tier AOE burst, mobility and survivability. Honestly this build has it all and will excel at any type of PvP.
The nasty Gravity Well / Fireball / Pillar combo gives this build great CC and AOE burst at a distance while also having two of the longest distance gap closers in the game as escapes and chase moves.
I expect this guy to probably get nerfed!
Check out a video guide with gameplay for this build!
This build stacks INT thanks to The Abyss’s scaling and hits very hard. The 25 FOC points are great for that cooldown reduction as the additional abilities you can use make this a great offensive and defensive choice, but if you want to stack more damage you can take these points out. I would recommend 150 CON as the durability helps a ton for delivering bombs!

50: +10% physical armor when at or above 50% health. 10% reduction on durability loss for tools.
100: Increase max health by 10%. +50 encumbrance.
150: -10% to critical damage taken. -10% weight of logging items.
Equipment
For The Abyss I would recommend Crippling Reap as your final perk, but its really up to your preference! That Fire Staff is nearly perfect with Shirking traded out for Attunement. You could also go for a keen / vicious combo on the staff to be more AOE focused.
Ideally the armor would be Either Aversion Perk / Thrust Conditioning / Shirking Heals. Shirking Heals is the way to go this patch, offering a ton of healing power as long as your dodging well. You definitely want Shirking Energy on the legs and I highly recommend trying to fit in 4x Refreshing on either your armor or jewelry!
The Ankh would be a massive option on this build to boost your Shirking Heals perks, otherwise I don’t recommend the other Artifact Jewelry. My ideal amulet would be Healthy / Thrust or Fire Resistance / Stamina Recovery. The ring I have is great but I wouldn’t mind adding Leeching instead of Invigorated Punishment. My ideal amulet would have Regenerating instead of Refreshing Toast or Nimble!
As always use the best food you can find, honing stones, and health / mana / regeneration / OP new super potions introduced in the expansion!
Active Skills
Great Axe
Reap - 4/4 Upgrades
This skill has excellent range and deals a massive 195% weapon damage when both hits land. I loved Reap for finishing off healers or targets who are trying to get away!
If you run the Crippling Reap perk you can give this skill even more utility with the snare.
Gravity Well - 3/3 Upgrades
Your AOE CC and combo starter for this build. Gravity Well has a bit of range allowing you to land massive burst combo’s without even having to enter the clump!
The Root and Snare lockdowns make it super easy to land all your Fire Staff skills, and if you have the Insatiable Gravity Well perk you can add more damage to this combo!
Charge - 3/3 Upgrades
A fast long distance gap closer with grit. This is the perfect skill for attacking or escaping from a bad spot, and it can hit pretty dam hard too!
Fire Staff
Fireball - 2/3 Upgrades
Your go to AOE blast skill to open up your combo. I highly recommend the Empowering Fireball perk on your staff so this skill can hit massive damage!
Pillar Of Fire - 2/3 Upgrades
Your second long ranged AOE skill that is great for damaging a burning target. It’s low cooldown is great for spamming!
Burnout - 3/3 Upgrades
This gap closer not only travels a long distance, but it can hit like a truck while burning everything it touches.
I like to use it to enter the fight with then drop my combo after, since the longer windup time on this skill can be a hinderance defensivley!
